Murmur Privacy Policy
Murmur is built privacy-first. Your books and your reading stay on your device. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what that means - and it is written to match Murmur’s App Store privacy label line for line. Murmur is an iOS-only app from Read · Build · Ship.
Data we do not collect
Murmur does not collect your books, your reading history, your listening history, your highlights, your categories, or your library contents. There is no account to create, so there is nothing to sign in to and no profile tied to you. Nothing about what you read or listen to is sent to us or to anyone else. Your imported EPUB files never leave your device.
On-device processing
Text-to-speech runs entirely on your iPhone. The voices and the speech engine are part of the app, so audio is generated locally. No text is uploaded to a server to be read aloud. Murmur works fully offline, and the core reading and listening features never need a network connection.
Optional anonymous analytics
If anonymous analytics are enabled, Murmur may record aggregate, non-identifying usage events (for example, that a feature was opened) to help improve the app. These events are handled by PostHog, are not tied to your identity, and never include the contents of your books.
Optional crash reporting
If crash reporting is enabled, Murmur may send limited, anonymous diagnostic reports through Sentry when the app crashes. These reports help fix bugs. They do not identify you and never include the contents of your books.
Subscriptions
Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple and by RevenueCat, our purchase manager. Apple handles the payment. RevenueCat remembers whether your subscription is active using an anonymous identifier that is never linked to you or to what you read. We receive only whether your subscription is active. We do not receive your payment details.
Children and general audience
Murmur is a general-audience app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and we do not sell any data to anyone.
